COLUMBUS — Ohio State defensive tackle Haskell Garrett was released from the hospital Monday after being shot in the face over the weekend.
According to a Columbus police report, the 22-year-old senior from Las Vegas told officers he was shot in the 400 block of Chittenden Avenue when he intervened in a dispute between a man and a woman who were “arguing and being aggressive.”
Garrett said the man pulled out a gun and fired a shot that police said passed through both of Garrett’s cheeks.
Garrett told officers that he ran to a friend’s apartment, where police found him early Sunday after following a trail of blood.
Police say the shooting is still being investigated.
Meanwhile, a 9-year-old boy is recovering after he was shot during a cookout at an East Side park Monday night.
Police say a group of people were having a cookout at the shelter house at Maloney Park on Joyce avenue around 6:30 p.m. when a vehicle drove through the park and someone inside began shooting at the group, striking the boy one time in the back.
The boy was dropped off at Ohio State University Hospital East.
