Gas below $2/gallon? Maybe by summer’s end

COLUMBUS – While gas prices are trending lower in the country as a whole, they are higher to start the work week in Columbus.

A gallon of regular gas in Ohio was averaging $2.77 in Monday’s survey from auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and WEX Inc. That’s three cents higher than Sunday and up 6 cents from last week at this time.

Nationwide, the average price of gasoline has dropped 2 cents over the past two weeks amid lower crude oil prices to $2.83 a gallon, according to oil industry analyst Trilby Lundberg’s weekly survey.

The statewide average price was up about a nickel from one week ago, to $2.75 a gallon.

Average prices in Ohio remained slightly below the nation’s average and are significantly cheaper than last year at this time, when prices were averaging $3.48 per gallon.

Experts expect a substantial decline in gas prices in late summer and fall, pushing average prices in some states to below $2 a gallon.
