COLUMBUS – After two weeks of increases, the price of gas in Columbus started out the work week about 13 cents cheaper than the week before.

AAA says prices at the pump moved to a 19-month high as driving demand increases and the switch is made to more expensive summer-blend gasoline. BP’s Whiting, Ind., refinery also experienced a minor issue last week, affecting Midwestern gas prices.
The average retail price for a gallon of regular gas in Columbus Monday was $2.29, according to the auto club’s daily report compiled from additional data supplied by the Oil Price Information Service and WEX, Inc.
The state average for regular fuel was about $2.32 per gallon, down a few cents from the average of $2.38 a week ago, but up from about $2.11 at this time last year.
The national average rose two pennies from last week to about $2.41 on Monday its highest price this year, according to the auto club. It was much cheaper a year ago, averaging $2.11.
