Gas price rise continues

COLUMBUS – Gas prices in central Ohio and across the nation continue to trend higher as summer comes to an end, gas inventories dwindle and oil prices increase.

The average price of a gallon of regular-grade gasoline jumped 24 cents in Columbus in the last week to $2.33, according to a daily survey from the auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and WEX, Inc.

According to the Lundberg Survey, the nationwide average price had increased 8 cents over the past three weeks, to $2.40. The Columbus price has gone up by about 10 cents during that period.

Industry analyst Trilby Lundberg says the spike since July 24 results from higher crude oil prices.

The statewide average price of $2.31 Monday morning was 6 cents higher than last week, according to the AAA survey.
