Gas prices 7% higher than last year

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Columbus motorists are paying about 7 percent more for gasoline than they were at this same time last year.

A daily survey from the AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and WEX, Inc., showed the average price of regular gasoline in Columbus on Monday was $3.79 a gallon, 24 cents higher than on the same date one year ago.

Analysts say prices in parts of the country are being kept high as refineries shut down for scheduled maintenance before they are required to start producing summer-blend gasoline by Thursday. The price at the pump has also been elevated by high crude prices due to tensions between Ukraine and Russia.

The local price was 12 cents higher than two weeks ago.

The national average price of $3.70 was 20 cents higher than a year ago, an increase of 6 percent.
