Gas prices ease, but remain high

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Central Ohioans are paying nearly a dime more per gallon for gas compared with a week ago, but less than the year’s highest prices, which they saw two weeks ago.

The cost for a gallon of regular gas in Columbus was averaging $3.89 in Monday’s survey from auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and WEX Inc.

That is eight cents higher than last Monday and eight cents lower than on June 2. It is 12 cents higher than a month ago and on this date last year.

Prices in Ohio are 20 cents above the national average.

Analysts say unrest in Iraq has driven up the price in crude oil after a supply squeeze and increased demand drove central Ohio prices close to the $4 a gallon mark.

Monday’s Ohio price is about 12 cents higher than a month ago, and about 10 cents higher than last year at this time.

The national average Monday was $3.66 per gallon. That’s a penny more than a week ago, and 2 cents higher than a month ago.
