Gas prices increase again

COLUMBUS – Gas prices around Ohio are up slightly as the new workweek begins but are only in line with the nationwide average.

The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Columbus was $2.13, in Monday’s survey from auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and WEX Inc. That’s up 7 cents from a week ago and 16 cents higher than two weeks ago.

The national average price on Monday was $2.12, a penny less compared with last week’s average.

Oil industry analyst Trilby Lundberg says the nationwide average price has dropped 6 cents in the last two weeks and 21 cents since prices peaked June 3.

Analysts say a drop in crude oil prices has driven a nine-week decline in costs at the pump, but those prices have strengthened in the past week and retail price drops are likely to be smaller or cease.

The statewide average price Monday was $2.15, up 6 cents since last Monday.

The average price in Ohio a year ago was $2.45.
