Gas prices up 28 cents in 2 weeks

COLUMBUS – The price of gasoline in Columbus has increased for the second week in a row in the face of rising oil prices.

The average price for a gallon of regular gas Monday morning was $2.42, 6 cents higher than the statewide and national average price, according to a daily survey from the auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and WEX, Inc.

The average price of gasoline fell half a cent nationally over the past two weeks, according to industry analyst Trilby Lundberg biweekly Lundberg Survey, but the price in central Ohio was 28 cents higher than on May 8.

Lundberg said Sunday that gas prices actually rose in several Western and Midwestern cities.

Crude oil prices rose during the previous two weeks, but retailers have been slow to pass those increases on to consumers, so Lundberg predicted prices could rise even farther.

AAA, on the other hand, says upcoming summer travel should increase demand but likely not enough for a significant price increase.
