COLUMBUS – A Georgia woman has been indicted by a Franklin County grand jury on charges stemming from a serious traffic accident near Grove City that left an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper injured.

The six-count indictment against Alea Weil, of Marietta, Ga., includes charges of aggravated vehicular assault, vehicular assault, possession of a fentanyl-related compound, possession of cocaine, and two counts of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, a drug of abuse, or a combination of them, according to a release from the office of Prosecuting Attorney Gary Tyack.

Trooper Adrian Wilson was standing in front of his cruiser, which was stopped on the shoulder of I-71 northbound near state Route 665 Grove City, on Feb. 13 when Weil’s vehicle, travelling at a high rate of speed, left her lane and crashed into the rear of the cruiser, causing it to strike Wilson, who was seriously injured after being thrown onto the hood and hitting the windshield, Tyack said.

During the investigation, cocaine and fentanyl were found in Weil’s vehicle and it was later determined that Weil, 29, was under the influence of cocaine and fentanyl at the time of the crash.
