COLUMBUS, Ohio – The longest-serving mayor in Columbus history has made it clear whom he wants to take over for him.
Michael Coleman Wednesday announced his endorsement of Columbus City Council President Andrew Ginther, in next November’s election, saying Ginther has “the vision, values and experience” for the city’s top job.

“I know that, as Columbus’ next mayor, Andy will bring our community together as one to keep building on our successes,” Coleman said from the stage of the Lincoln Theatre.
Coleman announced earlier this year he did not intend to seek a fifth term in office.
Franklin County Sheriff Zach Scott has also announced his candidacy.
“As mayor, I will work together with every person in every corner of our city to fight inequality, promote safe neighborhoods, and create good jobs. That’s what Mayor Coleman has done and, by every measure, that’s why we’re making Columbus the greatest city in the nation to live, work and raise a family,” Ginther said.
Prior to joining City Council in 2011, Ginther served on the Columbus Board of Education and is currently vice president of Community Affairs and Outreach for Children’s Hunger Alliance.
