“Today, Columbus residents voted for a vision to build America’s Opportunity City. Working together, we will make sure every person in every neighborhood is sharing in our success,” Ginther said.

With 99,116 votes, he bested fellow Democrat and Franklin County Sheriff Zach Scott, conceded on Tuesday night.

Ginther had boasted a fundraising advantage and endorsements from the Franklin County Democratic Party and dozens of current and former Democratic officials, including current Mayor Michael Coleman, who was elected in 1999 and decided not to seek a fifth term this year.

Speaking to a cheering crowd of supporters, Ginther said he’ll work to build on Coleman’s legacy. He said each person in each neighborhood deserves a shot at success, and the way to accomplish that is cooperation.

Ginther will have a Democratic-controlled City Council to work with. Zach Klein, Elizabeth Brown, Michael Stinziano and Jaiza Page were the top four vote-getters in the race for open Council seats and Shannon Hardin was elected to serve out an unexpired term for the seat to which he had been appointed.
