Grand jury considers Bellefontaine mom case

BELLEFONTAINE (AP) – A grand jury is scheduled to convene Tuesday to weigh possible new charges against a Bellefontaine woman accused of killing her three sons because authorities say she was jealous of the attention her husband paid them.

Brittany Pilkington is being held on preliminary murder charges in the Logan County Jail on $1 million bond.

Investigators say the 23-year-old smothered two sons, one in July 2014 and the other on April 6. Authorities took custody of her third son after he was born three months ago, but a judge allowed him to be returned home because there wasn’t conclusive evidence the first two boys had been killed. The third son died Aug. 18.

Pilkington hasn’t been required to enter a plea yet. The grand jury was expected to meet Tuesday afternoon.
