COLUMBUS – The Mud Hens knocked off the Clippers 9-7 to earn a split of their four-game series, which concluded Thursday at Huntington Park.
A trio of Clippers home runs from Eric Stamets, Yu Chang and Nellie Rodriguez were not enough as a seventh inning grand slam off the bat of Chad Huffman propelled Toledo to victory.
Rodriguez launched a two-run bomb to left field in the sixth to give Columbus a 5-4 lead but Huffman turned around a Matt Belisle pitch, depositing it in the left field bleachers to give Toledo an 8-5 lead.
Caleb Thibar (2-0) got the win as three relievers held the Clippers to two runs on seven hits the rest of the way, with Johnny Barbato picking up his third save of the season.
Jeff Beliveau (0-1) got the loss for Columbus, which went 6-4 on their home stand.
The Clippers will travel to Georgia to face off against the Gwinnett Stripers at 7:05 p.m. Friday.
