Gun found in teen’s backpack at school

COLUMBUS – A 15-year-old boy was arrested Monday after bringing a loaded gun into a Northwest Side high school.

Staff at Centennial High School on Bethel were notified at approximately 8:30 a.m. by a student that his cell phone was stolen when he was in the lunchroom.

The school’s security officer reviewed video of the cafeteria and saw a student pick something up off the table that the student who reported his phone missing was using, investigators with the Columbus Division of Police Gun Crimes Unit reported.

The officer removed pulled the student who picked up the item from class and took him to the office where the student was searched for the missing phone and a loaded gun was found in the student’s backpack.

The school resource officer was notified and the student was arrested for conveyance/possession of a deadly weapon in a school zone and carrying a concealed weapon.
