Gun-wielding woman shot by officer

COLUMBUS – A woman police say was waving a firearm during an apparent robbery at a Northeast Side restaurant early Saturday morning was taken to the hospital after being shot by a Columbus police officer.

Callers to the Columbus police dispatch center at approximately 7:00 a.m. told officers that a woman was waving a gun inside the Tim Hortons Restaurant at 955 E. Dublin Granville Road, police spokeswoman Sgt. Chantay Boxill said.

When officers arrived, Boxill says they encountered Angela Garcia, 36, and shots were fired.

Garcia was injured when she was shot by patrol officer Samuel Rippey, a 13-year veteran of the Division of Police, Boxill said.

Garcia was taken to Riverside Methodist Hospital in stable condition.

There were no other injuries reported.

Boxill says a gun was recovered at the scene.
