Gunfire leaves five Ohio kids injured

COLUMBUS – Three small children shot in Columbus were among at least five children injured by gunfire in Ohio over the weekend.

Columbus also saw its 88th and 89th homicides of 2021 during a three-day stretch that saw eight shooting incidents, which left one man dead, and a fatal stabbing outside a gentlemen’s club.

Police say a 7-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy were shot while riding their bicycles in the 800 block of Greenfield Drive in Franklinton just before 6:30 p.m. Sunday when the occupants of a dark-colored SUV began firing gunshots into a crowd. Both are expected to make a full recovery from their injuries, Det. Mautez Fulton of the Felony Assault Unit said.

UPDATE 6/17/21 7:50 a.m.: Columbus police say Shaliq Nyshawn Bing, 16, has been charged with folonious assault in the shootings of 7-tear-old Myloyalty Perry and 4-year-old Dawaugh Reyes.

A 4-year-old boy is recovering after police say he was shot in the foot when he and his mother were caught in a crossfire at their Far Southeast Side home Saturday night.

Staci Rogers, 27, told police she had just parked her car at her apartment complex on Westpot Drive just before 11:00 p.m. when a bullet grazed her arm and another struck her 4-year-old son in the right foot, Det. Ian Pruitt said.

A shootout broke out just as they were getting out of their vehicle and Rogers and her son were struck by stray bullets, Pruitt said.

Authorities in Cincinnati say two children were critically injured in a quadruple shooting in the city’s Westwood neighborhood at about 6:15 p.m. Saturday.

Officers responding to the incident found a 6-year-old, and 8-year-old and two young adult men in their late teens wounded.

Police said the children were taken to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in critical condition and the adults were taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center with injuries deemed non-life-threatening, authorities said.

Police believe at least two suspects fled the scene on foot.

The three injured children were among 11 people struck by gunfire in Columbus over the weekend, including an unidentified man who became the city’s 89th homicide victim of the year after being found on the West Side.

Officers dispatched to the 600 block of Wedgewood Drive on a report of gunshots at approximately 10:43 p.m. Saturday found a man unresponsive and suffering from gunshot injuries about a block away in front of 661 Kingsford Drive, Sgt. Edward Powell of the Homicide Unit said.

The man, described as black and between 20 and 25 years of age, died later at OhioHealth Grant Medical Center, Powell said.

UP0DATE 6/17/21 8:02 a.m.: Police have identified the victim in the Kingsford Rd. shooting as George Gregory Miguel, 22.

A 34-year-old man died early Saturday after being stabbed at the Confidential Gentlemen’s Club on the East Side, Powell said.

Officers found Clyde Woods Jr. at an address in the 1900 block of Lake Club Drive at 2:25 a.m. and he died at 6:15 a.m. at Mount Carmel East Hospital, Powell said.
