Guns at school, hospital, library

COLUMBUS – Three cases of guns in the wrong places in Columbus.

A teen and an adult are facing charges and an 18-year-old is recovering from injuries after people brought weapons to a school, a hospital and a library.

A Thomas Worthington High School student is facing charges after bringing a handgun to school Thursday morning, according to the Worthington Division of Police.

School officials notified police that a student was in possession of a firearm and officers found a .380 caliber handgun in the student’s backpack, police said.

The student was arrested and charged with possession of a deadly weapon in a school zone, a felony, and with carrying a concealed weapon and inducing panic, both misdemeanors, police said.

They said a second student may have been in possession of the same gun earlier in the day and may also face charges.

Principal Pete Scully sent an email to families Thursday that said no threats had been made by the student.

A man was arrested at Nationwide Children’s Hospital after he was caught streaming on Facebook with a gun, according to a report by WBNS 10-TV.

According to court records, Stacey Allison, Jr.’s child was a patient at the hospital. Allison was in the child’s room early Thursday morning, recording himself on Facebook Live and posing with a handgun.

Allison was prohibited from possessing a firearm due to a burglary conviction in May 2016.

An 18-year-old man who was shot while in a branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library was listed in stable condition at Grant Medical Center after police say he was hit by a bullet fired from outside the library.

Witnesses told police that several young men, ranging in age from 17 to 20, were preparing to fight in the parking lot of the Livingston Avenue library branch, located at 3434 E. Livingston Avenue, at approximately 5:00 p.m. when someone fired several gunshots, said Sgt. James Jardine of the Homicide Unit.

Several bullets struck the building and Jardine says one of them went through a window and hit Davon Ellis in the leg.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Columbus Police Assault Unit at 614-645-4141 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS.
