Guns, drugs seized in East Side home

COLUMBUS – Police seized dozens of firearms, thousands of rounds of ammunition, as well as drugs and cash, at an East Side home on Friday and arrested a man who faces weapons and drug charges.

Terry Swartz, 56, was charged with drug possession and possessing a weapon under disability after police from Whitehall, Columbus and Bexley found 73 firearms, more than 5,500 rounds of ammunition and drugs and cash inside a home on Shore Boulevard, Whitehall police Chief Mike Crispen said.

During the raid, which was the culmination of an investigation into heroin and fentanyl trafficking in Whitehall, officers seized cocaine, marijuana, heroin/fentanyl, methamphetamine and illegally obtained prescription pills, as well as over $2000 in cash, Crispen said.

Officers also confiscated 47 handguns, 20 shotguns and six rifles, many of which were loaded. Crispen says five of the weapons had been reported stolen.

Swartz has a lengthy criminal history in Ohio, Illinois, Indians, Kentucky and Georgia, Crispen said.
