Happy birthday, Ohio!

COLUMBUS – The Ohio Statehouse holds a birthday celebration 215 years in the making Sunday.

Ohio 215th Birthday Celebration: Sun., March 4/12:00-3:00 p.m.; Ohio Statehouse; Admission is free and parking is available in the Statehouse parking garage.

Festivities to mark Ohio statehood run through the weekend. Ohio was founded on March 1, 1803.

A small art exhibit opening Wednesday features original portraits of two key players in the debate over statehood: Arthur St. Clair and Thomas Worthington. An Ohio History Connection film on the statehood debate will be featured through the weekend.

Visitors can also experience an “Ohio symbols” Statehouse tour and a game of Statehouse bingo.

Event schedule and location
Sun., March 4: 12 – 3 p.m. Museum Gallery, Statehouse bingo: Pick up a Statehouse bingo card to complete while you explore the Ohio Capitol. Everyone who gets bingo on their card wins a party favor!
12 – 3 p.m. Map Room, Guided Tours: 45-minute public Statehouse tours will begin at noon, 1, 2 and 3 p.m. 30 minute “Symbols of the State” tours will begin at 12:30 and 1:30 p.m.
12 – 3 p.m. Atrium, Activities: Create a party favor bag and join in activities
2 – 3 p.m. Rotunda, Birthday Treats: Enjoy snacks and treats and test your knowledge of Ohio trivia

Organizations from across Columbus, such as historical societies from Franklinton and Hilliard, and the state, like TourismOhio and the Rutherford B. Hayes and William McKinley presidential libraries and museums, will be on hand offering activities, travel information and educational exhibits.
