Haskins, Burrow state their cases

COLUMBUS — Dwayne Haskins Jr. and Joe Burrow each put up some impressive numbers in the annual spring game in making their case to be the next starting quarterback at Ohio State.

Burrow, who has indicated he may transfer if he doesn’t get the starting job, went 15-22 for 238 yards and two touchdowns while Haskins was 9-19 for 120 yards and two scores of his own.

The two are competing to replace four-year starter J.T. Barrett.

Tate Martell, who completed only five of his 16 pass attempts and threw an interception, is still in the mix, but he’s clearly running behind the other two.

Coach Urban Meyer said the competition is close.

Fan favorite Ryan Shazier served as one of the honorary captains for the intrasquad scrimmage and stood without assistance to a loud cheer from the crowd.

The Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker is recovering from a devastating spinal injury suffered in a Dec. 4 game with the Bengals.

He drove a golf cart to midfield and climbed out to stand briefly and fire up the crowd.
