Haslam: Farmer admits to in-game texting

BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Browns owner Jimmy Haslam has no plans to fire general manager Ray Farmer, who is at the center of a texting investigation by the NFL.

Haslam said Wednesday that Farmer has told the team he made a mistake in sending text messages during games, which is against league rules. The Browns are facing suspensions, fines and the possible loss of draft picks because of Farmer’s actions, which Haslam confirmed for the first time.

Haslam said Farmer “feels terrible” about his actions. Haslam said Farmer has his full support and that the investigation does not affect his standing with the Browns.

The league has yet to announce any punishments.

Haslam spoke for nearly 50 minutes with select media members. He addressed several issues, including the perceived dysfunction in the team’s front office and quarterback Johnny Manziel, who recently checked into rehab.
