The Buckeyes’ home opener Sept. 12 against Hawai’i will kick off at 3:30 p.m. (BTN) and the following week’s home game, against Northern Illinois, will also start at 3:30 p.m. ABC will carry the game in regional markets with an ESPN2 reverse mirror for the national broadcast, the Big Ten announced Friday.
Ohio State and Hawai’I are meeting for the first time in the sport of football. The game will be played just five days after Ohio State opens defense of its national championship with a Labor Day evening game against Virginia Tech at Blacksburg, Va. (8:00 p.m./ ESPN). The Hokies handed the Buckeyes their only of their 2014 national championship season.
The only other meeting between OSU and Northern Illinois was a 35-12 Buckeye victory in 2006 at Ohio Stadium. Rod Carey has coached the Huskies to a 23-6 record in two seasons plus an appearance in the 2013 Orange Bowl. NIU has been Mid-American Conference champion three of the last four seasons.
