Henderson earns weekly conference honors

COLUMBUS – TreVeyon Henderson earned two weekly awards from the Big Ten Conference for his record-setting performance in the Buckeyes’ 41-20 win over Tulsa.

The running back from Hopewell, Va., was named the Freshman of the Week and co-Offensive Player of the Week.

Ohio State has now earned the conference’s Freshman of the Week honor after each of Ohio State’s games this season. Quarterback C.J. Stroud has previously won the honor on Sept. 6 and Sept. 13.

Henderson ran for 277 yards and three touchdowns in in the victory over Tulsa, breaking the single-game record for rushing yards by a freshman set by two-time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin, who ran for 239 yards against North Carolina in 1972.

It was also the most yardage gained by an FBS player in a game so far this season.

The Buckeyes (2-1) finish the non-conference portion of their schedule on Saturday when they host Akron (7:30 p.m./BTN).
