High stakes as Hoosiers come to town

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A lot is at stake in Ohio State’s final home game of the 2013 football season: A chance to set a new school record with a 23-game winning streak and earn a berth in the Big Ten Championship Game are at the top of the list.

Standing in the way are the apparently hapless Indiana Hoosiers, a good-news/bad-news team.

The bad news: They are second only to Ohio State in scoring offense in the Big Ten, averaging 39.1 points per game.

“This team can score points in bunches. We’ve got to control the clock, control the time,” Buckeye head coach Urban Meyer said.

The good news: The Hoosiers (4-6, 2-4) are also the worst defensive team in the conference. They rank last in scoring defense (38.8 points per game), last in total defense (534.8 yards per game), last in pass defense (283.7 ypg) and 11th in rushing defense (251.1 ypg).

Tomorrow will also be Senior Day, when the university honors the players who are playing their final game at Ohio Stadium (3:30 p.m./ABC6).

The Buckeyes (10-0, 6-0) can clinch the Leaders Division championship before wrapping up their season Nov. 30 against rival Michigan in Ann Arbor (Noon/ABC6).
