High water

COLUMBUS, Ohio – High water from heavy rains has closed roads in central Ohio and parts of the area remain under a flood advisory today.

-Flood Advisory for the Olentangy River at Worthington all day. The river is nearing flood stage at Mt. Air.

The National Weather Service reported rainfall ranging from less than a half-inch in Gahanna and New Rome to nearly 4 inches (3.7″) southwest of Galena. Most of central Ohio saw 1-3 inches of rain.

Several roads were closed and safety officials are reminding motorists not to drive through standing water.

The Licking County Sheriff’s Office says a woman was stranded when she drove into high water at Bennington Chapel and Shipley rooads and, though she was able to walk away, she needed help because she was lost.

The Weather Service recorded 3.54 inches of rain at the Cleveland airport on Tuesday — a record for the date. As a result, high water closed part of the Shoreway and also disrupted traffic on sections of Interstate 90, Interstate 71 and roads in several northeast Ohio communities.
