COLUMBUS – Hilliard police are looking for a man they say tried to abduct an 8-year-old girl while she was playing in a yard a subdivision Sunday afternoon.

They say a black male, described as tall and skinny, in his teens or early 20s and wearing a white t-shirt and “skater” style pants grabbed the girl while she was playing in a yard on Joneswood Drive in the Lakewood subdivision, which is located north of Roberts Road and east of Alton-Darby Creek Road, at approximately 5:35 p.m.

Police say the girl kicked and screamed until the suspect let her go and a neighbor ran to help.

Police say they are looking for an older model Chevy work van, which they are calling a “vehicle of interest.” It was reported as suspicious in the area prior to the incident and is described as primer gray with two work ladders on top, driven by a male black with a male Hispanic passenger.
