COLUMBUS, Ohio – One man is dead and another in the hospital after they and two accomplices picked the wrong house to break into.
Columbus police say Jonathan Miller, 23, and Carmeore Johnson, 25, were among four people who forced their way into a West Side apartment Wednesday, but were met by a resident who opened fire on the group.
Neighbors say Edward Finnell, 67, and Elec Reed, 55, armed themselves after being robbed last year.
Officers who arrived at 1323 Cascade Court, a few blocks from the police training academy off Hague Avenue, at 5:25 p.m. on a reported shooting found Miller, suffering from a gunshot wound, in front of the apartment building and Johnson a short distance away, Homicide Unit detectives said.
Police say Miller was transported to the hospital in critical condition and died Saturday. Johnson was in stable condition and under guard.
Johnson and Deshaun Farr, 21, were charged with aggravated robbery. Kadijiah Robinson, 17, was charged with aggravated robbery and murder, detectives said.
Detectives say the shootings appear to be the result of a home invasion where the home owner shot the suspects. Detectives said they were still interviewing the home owners and possible additional suspects Thursday morning.
