COLUMBUS, Ohio – The central Ohio housing market cooled down with the temperatures in October but continued to show signs of recovery, according to data released Thursday by the Columbus Board of Realtors.
The number of houses and condos sold in October 2014 was a 9.9 percent increase from October 2013 and 0.6 percent lower than September’s as buyers and sellers turn their attentions to the new school year and the approaching holidays, board president Milt Lustnauer said.
The average sale price of a home climbed for the eighth month in a row to $182,368 in October, an increase of 1.7 percent from September and a 6.7 percent increase from the year before. Thanks to a tight supply, the median sale price of $145,000 for the first 10 months of the year was 6.1 higher than the same period a year ago and homes spent only an average of 67 days on the market, selling 15 percent quicker than January-October 2013.
The number of new listings fell 8.1 percent from October 2013 and was 5.5 percent lower than in September. New listings in the first 10 months of 2014 are 4.5 percent behind the rate for the first 10 months of last year.
