Home sales slow in June

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The housing market in central Ohio continued to show the effects of a tight supply in June, when the number of homes sold increased over May, but lagged behind sales in June 2013, according to data released Tuesday by the Columbus Board of Realtors.

Sales in June were 11.2 percent higher than May, but were down 3.3 percent from the same month a year ago. The 3,903 homes and condos listed for sale in the Columbus area last month was virtually unchanged from May, but was 1.2 percent fewer than June 2013.

The inventory level of homes on the market is 5.5 percent higher than May, driving up the average sale price to $201,285, 2.6 higher than June 2013.

Statewide, the number of homes sold increased 4.7 percent from May to June but last month’s sales were flat when compared to a year ago., according to according to the Ohio Association of Realtors.

Sales in the second quarter of the year declined 1.4 percent from the second quarter 2013 even though they were 9 percent higher than the first quarter.

U.S. sales of existing homes increased 2.6 percent to 5.04 million, the fastest pace in eight months, according to the National Association of Realtors.
