COLUMBUS, Ohio – Columbus police have arrested a homeless man in connection with the deadly shooting of a man who crashed his car into a fence on the Southeast Side Monday afternoon.
Brandon Phillip Knowles, 20, was arrested Monday on a charge of murder in connection with the slaying of Walter Fly, Homicide Unit Det. Jay Fulton said.
Fulton says officers found Fly, 51, inside his vehicle, which had crashed into a wooden privacy fence at the rear of a home in the 800 block of S. 18th Street just after 2:10 p.m.
Investigators say Fly was actually shot near the intersection of Wager and E. Columbus Streets and the vehicle traveled the two and a half blocks east on Columbus Street until coming to rest after striking the fence.
Fly was pronounced dead at the scene, the 33rd homicide victim of the year in Columbus.
