Homicide on NE Side street has confusing elements

COLUMBUS – Police are puzzled about why one man shot another to death at a Northeast Side street corner Thursday afternoon after the two had been riding in an SUV together right up to the time of the incident.

UPDATE 6/4/18 6:51 a.m.: The victim has been identified as Jordan Lamont Carper, 25.

The incident was the third homicide reported on Thursday.

Investigators say the victim and the suspect apparently knew each other, but when they got out of a vehicle described as a light colored SUV, possibly a KIA, at the intersection of Brooks Avenue and Indigo Way at approximately 1:34 p.m., one of the men pulled a handgun and shot the other for some reason, then fled into a townhome complex northeast of the scene, Homicide Unit first shift supervisor Sgt. Dave Sicilan said.

Officers arrived and found the 25-year-old man lying on the sidewalk suffering from gunshot wounds. Sicilian says the victim was taken to Grant Medical Center by Columbus fire personnel but he died about 20 minutes later.

The suspect was described as a male black wearing a dark shirt and shorts and should be considered armed and dangerous, Sicilian said
