The barn fire began shortly after 3:00 a.m. Wednesday on Peter Hoover Road, off E. Johnstown Road, Plain Township Assistant Fire Chief Jack Rupp said.

Rupp says two horses died in the fire, and a dog was slightly injured. The barn collapsed from the flames.

No residents were hurt.

Four area fire departments were called to assist Plain Township firefighters at the scene. Rupp says cold temperatures made containing the flames more difficult.

Investigators will be working this morning to determine how the fire began.
