BELLEFONTAINE – Authorities in Logan County say a man hosting an underage drinking party shot a 16-year-old boy who later died.
The shooting happened early Sunday following a dispute involving several people including the boy who was killed at the home of Evan Hoffman on County Road 21 in Lewiston, the Logan County sheriff’s office said Monday
Investigators say Brandon Doseck of Jackson Center left the party following the argument, came back with several others and forced his way inside through a side door. They say that’s when Hoffman shot the teenager, who died later at Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine.
A caller to 911 described the weapon used as a shotgun.
Hoffman confronted the rest of the group at the front door and fired his weapon into the porch, causing minor injuries to two other people, Sheriff Andrew Smith said.
Hoffman, 20, was arrested on 20 alcohol-related charges, including furnishing alcohol to underage persons and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, but none connected directly to the shooting.
The county prosecutor’s office will determine if more charges are warranted, Smith said.
It wasn’t immediately clear if Hoffman had an attorney. A woman who answered the phone at one possible family number declined to talk.
