House OK’s medical pot

COLUMBUS – The Ohio House Tuesday afternoon approved a measure legalizing the use of medical marijuana.

The bill allows cannabis to be vaporized, but not smoked.

Doctors could prescribe cannabis oil, tinctures, plant material, edibles or patches.

The measure’s supporters claim medical marijuana can be used to treat cancer, chronic pain, epilepsy, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson’s disease spinal cord injury, HIV and AIDS as well as other conditions.

The bill, which now heads to the Senate, creates a nine-member Medical Marijuana Control Commission which regulates growers, dispensaries, testing labs, processors and doctors, who may recommend medical marijuana but not dispense it themselves.
