HS Football: D-III shootout

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio’s Mr. Football turned in a memorable performance in his last high school game but Joe Burrow of Athens says he never felt worse after the Bulldogs lost the Division III championship game to Toledo Central Catholic, 56-52 Thursday night in Ohio Stadium

Already committed to play at Ohio State, the nearly flawless 6’4” 210-pound Burrow completed 26 of his 45 pass attempts, six of them for touchdowns, and rushed for another 56 yards in the loss.

Marcus Winters’ 8-yard touchdown run with 15 seconds to play was the game-winner. Winters ran for three touchdowns and threw for two more.

Burrow threw 180 passes in the Bulldogs’ perfect, 10-0 regular season, completing 135 of those — a 75 percent accuracy rate — for 2,860 yards and 42 touchdowns only one interception.

Burrow, the son of Ohio University’s defensive coordinator, was making a sort of debut at Ohio Stadium.

He was selected Ohio’s Mr. Football earlier this week in balloting by a statewide panel of sports writers.
