COLUMBUS, Ohio – The newly-expanded Ohio High School Athletic Association football tournament begins Friday and Saturday with 25 central Ohio teams among the of 224 schools have qualified.
Beginning this season, the 714 Ohio schools that fielded football teams this fall have been divided into seven divisions instead of six.
The largest 72 schools are in Division I, which is divided into two regions. The top 16 teams in both regions have qualified, based on the OHSAA’s computer rankings.
Divisions II through VII are each divided into four regions. The top eight teams in each region in those divisions qualify for the playoffs.
The 2013 OHSAA State Football Championship games are scheduled from Dec. 5-7 at Canton Fawcett Stadium and Massillon Paul Brown Tiger Stadium.
All seven state championship games will be televised live on SportsTime Ohio.
