HS winter sports tournaments cancelled

COLUMBUS – The Ohio High School Athletic Association announced Thursday that the winter sports tournaments, which were postponed indefinitely, have been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The association postponed the wrestling, basketball and ice hockey on March 12 amid a flurry of sports cancellations and postponements due to the spreading outbreak.

An association official says athletics will not be able to take place as schools will not reopen for many weeks and Gov. Mike DeWine has hinted that they may not reopen again this academic year.

The start of the OHSAA’s spring sports of softball, lacrosse, baseball, track and field and boys tennis is still postponed as officials await the reopening of schools.
