COLUMBUS, Ohio – The construction project around the I-70/I-71 split downtown takes another step toward completion this week when crews replace the 18th Street overpass, but it won’t come without some inconvenience for motorists.
The 18th Street Bridge will be demolished Friday, Feb. 21, so crews can begin construction on the new bridge over I-70 in Columbus. As a safety precaution, the Ohio Department of Transportation says the interstate will have to close between I-270 and I-71 overnight while the work is carried out, spokeswoman Nancy Burton said.
The posted detour is I-270 North to I-670 West to I-71 South to I-70 West.

Beginning at 9:00 p.m.:
CLOSED — Two lanes of I-70 west. Motorists will be forced to exit to I-71 north.
The ramp from I-71 south to I-70 east will also close. The detour is I-670 east to I-270.
Beginning at 11:00 p.m.:
CLOSED – All lanes of I-70 west are closed including the ramp from I-70 west to I-71 north.
CLOSED – I-70 east will close along with the ramp from Third St. to I-70 east. The detour is Livingston Ave. to I-70 east.

Saturday, Feb. 22, here is what will be open:
8:00 a.m.- The ramp from I-70 west to I-71 north and the right lane of I-70 west.
NOON – All lanes and ramp of I-70 west are open
6:00 p.m. – All lanes of I-70 east are open along with the ramps from I-71 south to I-70 east and Third St. to I-70 east.
