COLUMBUS – Got an idea for a new flavor of ice cream?
Utica-based Velvet Ice Cream is giving customers a chance to decide the new flavor the company will serve up during the Ohio State Fair, company president Luconda Dager said.
“Our special State Fair flavors have been so incredibly popular in the past, we wanted to invite our fans to be a part of the fun for this year,” she said.
The company launched a social media contest on Thursday that allows fans to determine the new 2017 State Fair ice cream flavor. Through April 12, the public can submit ideas on Velvet Ice Cream’s Facebook page. Company leaders will choose what they think is the best submission and will develop a flavor created especially for the Ohio State Fair (July 26-Aug. 6, Ohio Expo Center).
Velvet has traditionally launched a new flavor inspired by favorite tastes from the Ohio State Fair. In the past, ice cream fans have tried out Blueberry Sweet Corn, Banana Cream Pie, Maple Bacon and Elephant Ear, which proved so popular Dager says it became part of the company’s year-round flavor collection available in grocery stores in 56-ounce cartons.
Now in its 103rd year, Velvet produces and distributes more than five million gallons of ice cream every year.
