IKEA aims for 2017 opening at Polaris

COLUMBUS, Ohio – IKEA made it official Tuesday: The Swedish retailer is building a in Columbus.

The company said the 354,000 square foot store at Polaris could open as early as Summer 2017.

The proposed site of the store is on 33 acres of land in Delaware County currently occupied by the former Germain Amphitheater east of I-71 near Gemini Place, according to the company’s Facebook page.

The first IKEA store in Ohio is located in West Chester and there are media reports that say a Cleveland store is under consideration.

The store would reportedly employ 300 workers.

IKEA already operates 40 stores in the U.S.
