Indians 11, Padres 2

CLEVELAND (AP) — The Indians avoided a series sweep by defeating the San Diego Padres 11-2 Thursday night.

Edwin Encarnacion homered and matched a career high with four hits and All-Star Jose Ramirez hit a home run and had three RBIs.

Encarnacion was 4 for 5, including a leadoff homer in the fifth and an RBI double in the sixth. He also singled in the third and eighth.

Indians manager Terry Francona spent a third day in the hospital as doctors try to figure out why he’s been light-headed and had a rapid heart rate over the past month.

Francona has been undergoing tests at the Cleveland Clinic since Tuesday.

The 58-year-old is scheduled to manage the AL All-Star team next week, but those plans are on hold.

Francona is in his fifth season as Cleveland’s manager. He led the Indians to their first World Series appearance since 1997 last season.
