CLEVELAND — Called up from Columbus earlier in the day, Zach Plesac combined with three relievers for a one-hitter as the Indians beat the Detroit Tigers 8-0.
Plesac is 3-3 with a 4.00 ERA in eight starts with Cleveland. He was sent down before the All-Star break.
He was called up when Cleveland optioned first baseman Bobby Bradley back to Columbus where he was leading the International League with 24 home runs before being called up to Cleveland on June 22.
Oscar Mercado hit a two-run homer for Cleveland.
Nicholas Castellanos accounted for the Tigers’ only hit with a leadoff single up the middle in the fifth inning off Tyler Clippard.
Detroit had two baserunners and sent 28 batters to the plate, one above the minimum.
