Indians set team mark with 14th win

TORONTO (AP) — The Indians have set a team record for consecutive victories, and they did it in epic fashion.

Carlos Santana homered in the top of the 19th to send the Indians to their 14th straight win, 2-1 at Toronto. The blast came off Darwin Varney, who took the mound to start the 19th after fellow infielder Ryan Goins pitched in and out of a bases-loaded situation in the 18th. Goins and Varney were the Blue Jays’ ninth and 10th pitchers of the day.

Trevor Bauer worked five shutout innings to get the victory, improving to 7-2. Bauer was scheduled to start this weekend.

The streak breaks the club mark set in 1942 and matched in 1951. It also gives the Indians a seven-game lead over Kansas City in the American League Central.
