Indictment in Chillicothe woman’s death

CHILLICOTHE (AP) – A grand jury has indicted a suspect in the shooting death of a woman whose slaying is one of several deaths and disappearances troubling a southern Ohio city.

The Ross County Sheriff’s Office says Jason McCrary is charged with murder in the death of Timberly Claytor earlier this year, but has reportedly not been linked to any of the other deaths or disappearances.

The indictment announced Friday in Chillicothe also alleges McCrary, 37, is a repeat violent offender under Ohio law because of a previous conviction of aggravated robbery.

The body of Claytor, 38, was found in nearby Massieville on May 29.

Three other women have been found dead in the area since last year and two remain missing. Police say all were drug addicts and several had prostituted themselves.

A message was left with McCrary’s lawyer seeking comment.
