Intruder dies of gunshot wounds

COLUMBUS – Police say a woman who was shot while trying to break into a Southeast Side home in July died of her injuries early Friday.

Officers found Twyla Marie Dillard lying on the ground, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, outside a townhome complex on Jonathan Parkway at approximately 1:54 a.m. on July 19, Sgt. J.R. Strayer of the Homicide Unit said.

Dillard, 48, was taken to Mount Carmel East Hospital in critical condition and she died at 12:25 p.m. Friday, Strayer said.

Investigators determined that Dillard was shot while attempting to break into a home in violation of a civil protection order, Strayer said.

The investigation continues but no charges had been filed Friday.

This is the 65th homicide in Columbus in 2019.
