COLUMBUS – While the major leaguers were getting ready to play their All-Star Game, the Clippers and Lehigh Valley held a little home run derby of their own, with Columbus ending up on the short end.
With the 10-6 win, the Iron Pigs have taken the first two games of the three-game series at Huntington Park.
Mitch Walding contributed two of the Iron Pigs’ homers, the first one off losing pitcher Dominic DeMasi (1-1) who gave up three dingers and surrendered six runs during his 4 1/3 innings on the mound.
Yandy Diaz and Nellie Rodriguez homered for the Clippers, who fell behind, 6-3, after four innings and never caught up.
Jacob Waguespack (1-5) got the win for Lehigh Valley.
The two teams conclude the series Wednesday night.
