J.T. singled out

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Buckeye quarterback J.T. Barrett has been named the Big Ten’s Offensive Player and Freshman of the Week after a 56-17 win over conference opponent Rutgers.

The redshirt freshman from Wichita Falls, Texas, accounted for 368 yards of total offense and five touchdowns in leading Ohio State to its 18th consecutive Big Ten win.

Barrett, who stepped into the starting quarterback role after a shoulder injury sidelined Braxton Miller for the season, completed 19 of 31 pass attempts for 261 yards and three touchdowns and tacked on 107 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

This is his second Offensive Player of the Week and fourth Freshman of the Week award.

Barrett has been responsible for at least four touchdowns in each of the last four games, the longest active streak by any player in the country, and leads the Big Ten in total offense and pass efficiency.

The Buckeyes (5-1, 2-0) travel to Penn State Saturday (8:00 p.m./ABC).
