Jeni to scoop up graduation speech

COLUMBUS – Jeni Britton Bauer, who dropped out of college to open her first ice cream store, will be the speaker at Ohio State’s summer commencement.

OSU Summer Commencement: Sun., August 7/2:00 p.m./Schottenstein Center

The founder and president of Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams will address approximately 1,500 graduates and their families.

Britton Bauer studied art and art history at Ohio State and worked as a student employee at the Wexner Center for the Arts.

She worked in a bakery and made a hobby of blending perfumes and collecting essential oils.

Britton Bauer left college to open her first store in 1996, Scream Ice Cream in the North Market.

She opened Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams in 2002 and today her ice creams are served up in 23 “scoop shops,” including locations in Chicago, Nashville, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Charleston and St. Louis, and in more than 1,100 stores across the country.
