Jeni’s finds more listeria, closes again

(COLUMBUS) – Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, a hometown favorite that has gained a national following, has been forced to close for the second time after listeria was found at its Michigan Avenue processing plant.

According to our news partners at WBNS 10TV, the manufacturing plant and all scoop shops have been temporarily closed – the second time since the bacteria was first found back in April.

Jeni’s announced the closure on its website on Friday morning, saying the company has tested every batch of ice cream made since resuming production on May 13.

“We have found Listeria in our production kitchen again. We have stopped making ice cream and are investigating where and how it may have re-entered the facility,” the statement said.

The first listeria outbreak was discovered by the Nebraska Department of Agriculture. The company issued a recall, closed its scoop shops, and dumped more than 200 tons of product.

There is no word on when the scoop shops will reopen or when Jeni’s will be able to resume making ice cream.
