COLUMBUS – Another day, another Buckeye — or two — on a college football award watch list.
Quarterback Cardale Jones was named to the preseason watch list for the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award, presented annually to the nation’s best college quarterback, according to the OSU Athletics Department.
In his first career starts, the junior led the Buckeyes to a Big Ten championship win over Wisconsin, a Sugar Bowl win over No. 1-ranked Alabama in the College Football Playoff semifinals and a national championship game win over No. 2 Oregon.
Ezekiel Elliott has been named to the Doak Walker award watch list. The award is presented annually to the best running back in college football.
Elliott, who also was named to the Maxwell Award watch list last week, is the nation’s leading returning rusher, coming off an 1,878-yard season, the second-highest single-season total in OSU history. Elliott burst onto the national scene during Ohio State’s three-game post-season run, when he earned offensive MVP honors in both the Sugar Bowl and national championship.
